The SeaBuddy Pilot

Seabuddy & the Maritime DEI Lab

The concept of Seabuddy originated in an entry to the Maritime Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Lab in 2022. The DEI lab was a unique innovation challenge to identify scalable, digital solutions to enhance diversity and inclusion in the maritime industry. Run in partnership between Hafnia, RightShip, Wilhelmsen, Thome Group, Rio Tinto and Anglo American, the lab sought ideas from anyone and everyone who has an interest in the maritime sector both onshore and offshore.

Seabuddy was the winning idea submitted by a joint team from Rightship, Seapeak and ImageLine. The team envisaged a platform to allow individuals to connect with one another – this can be for comfort, it can be for learning, it can be for mentoring, or it can even be to show students, at first hand, what a career in maritime might look like.
